Reputational risk management

Companies operating in conflict sensitive areas face a multitude of reputational and legal risks, which can affect their security, as well as having major implications on their overall performance. They can even endanger a company's licence to operate.

Reputation can be affected by a wide range of stakeholders and with globalisation the expectations towards international companies have changed dramatically. Civil Society in particular is increasingly scrutinizing companies and pressuring them to respect Human Rights, to adapt responsible business practices and to become good corporate citizens.

Therefore the company's respect of Human Rights principles, as well as the identification and ranking of reputational risk and opportunities according to their probability and potential impact are essential in establishing a comprehensive reputational strategy. Companies' should actively manage their reputation by striving to identify, avoid and close reality gaps, engage in stakeholder dialogue, and implement valuable community relations projects.

Safestainable assists clients in analysing and addressing reputational risks related to their projects in a systematic manner, following existing best practices. We also support clients to implement concrete measures that will reduce reputational risks and prevent or close reality gaps.

Our reputational strategy focuses on prevention, acceptance, respect and correction as the starting point, when developing a detailed reputational risk strategy adapted a client's specific operational context. When supporting a client in its implementation, relevant indicators and benchmarks are identified, in order to measure the client's reputation among relevant stakeholders, the impact of community relations projects and the success of the adopted reputational strategy.
